During my journey along the Mae Hong Son Loop, I stumbled upon a place that felt straight out of a dream: the village of Ban Jabo. Nestled in the mountains of Mae Hong Son province, this small settlement of the Black Lahu community offers an authentic experience and breathtaking views. if you are driving the mae hong son loop i recommend you stop for a rest and enjoy a moment in this amazing village.

A Dive into Lahu Culture

Ban Jabo is primarily inhabited by the Black Lahu community, also known as “Lahu Chalae.” This ethnic group has preserved its traditions and simple way of life, giving visitors the chance to immerse themselves in a rich and fascinating culture. Walking through the village, I observed traditional wooden and bamboo houses and had the opportunity to interact with the locals, who were warm and eager to share their stories.

Breakfast Above the Clouds

One of the most unforgettable experiences was having breakfast at the village’s famous noodle restaurant (ครัวนาคือ บ้านจ่าโบ่). Sitting on a bamboo platform suspended over the edge of the mountain, my legs dangling in the air, I enjoyed a bowl of noodles while gazing at the “sea of clouds” that covered the valleys below. The sunrise view is absolutely magical, with the sun rising over a soft carpet of clouds, creating a surreal atmosphere.

How to Get to Ban Jabo

Ban Jabo is located along Route 1095, between Pai and Mae Hong Son. From Pai, the village is about an hour and a half drive by car or scooter. The winding road offers incredible panoramic views, making the journey itself an experience to remember. If you prefer not to drive, you can opt for a local taxi or a guided tour.
